01 · Privacy

Privacy policy

Dialegein is operated by Calum Kerr as a sole trader based in Scotland. This policy explains what personal information we use, why we use it, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you. If you have a privacy question, contact us at calum@dialegein.com.

What this covers

This policy applies when you browse the index, submit a product, request a change, contact us, or take part in a paid listing when that service becomes available.

The site checker is not available yet. It is described in this policy because we intend to build it, and a policy has to say what a feature would collect before it collects anything rather than after. Until it ships, none of the checker information described below has been gathered from anyone, because there is nothing to gather it. The same distinction applies to click reporting, and it has moved on. Clicks through our own handoff links are counted, and a report for one product over one calendar month can now be produced from that log on demand, which is the sheet a placement buyer would receive. Nothing has been sent to anybody yet, because no placement has been sold. If either changes, this section changes with it.

Information we receive

  • Submission details such as a product name, website address, logo, description, category, audience, pricing, contact email, and the details you choose to provide.
  • Change, claim, removal, or correction requests, including your message, evidence, and information needed to confirm that you are allowed to make the request.
  • Site checker information such as the website address you enter, the public page details we retrieve, the checks we run, the result, and the time of the check.
  • When someone follows an official Dialegein handoff, we record the product, the day, the time, and a count. We do not store visitor identity, an IP address, or the full referring URL for this report.
  • To avoid counting the same person twice for the same product in one day, we also derive a one-way value from the network address, the browser's user-agent header, and a secret we hold. The address itself is never stored, the value changes every day so it cannot be used to recognise a returning visitor, and the detail rows are deleted within two days - after that only the per-product daily count remains.
  • Messages you send to us and the technical details supplied by our hosting, sign in, database, email, security, and delivery providers.
  • Basic security records such as an access time, request route, browser information, and a limited network address record where a provider needs it to protect the service.

Why we use it

  • To review, publish, edit, pause, restore, or remove a product page.
  • To reply to a submission, claim, correction, removal request, or support message.
  • To provide the site checker and explain its preliminary result.
  • To send service messages about a submission, review, approval, removal, or other action you asked us to take.
  • To prevent abuse, protect accounts and data, investigate incidents, keep records of moderation, and meet legal duties.
  • To provide a paid listing if you order one, including payment, billing, campaign administration, and service support.

Our legal reasons

We use information because it is needed to take steps you ask us to take, because we have a legitimate interest in operating a safe and useful index, because we must meet a legal duty, or because you have given consent where consent is required. Sending a product submission confirms that you are allowed to provide the product information. It does not sign you up for marketing.

Who helps us process it

We use trusted service providers for hosting, storage, database operation, sign in, security, and service email. They process information only to provide their service to us and under their own terms and security duties. Information may be processed in another country when a provider operates there. When that happens, we use the protection required by data protection law. We do not sell personal information and we do not publish your personal email on a product page.

How long we keep it

We keep submission and contact records while they are needed to review, operate, support, or defend the index. If a listing is removed, we may keep a private record of the decision and the reason for as long as needed for moderation, abuse prevention, disputes, or legal duties. Checker records are kept only as long as needed for service quality, rate control, security, and legal duties. Click handoff records are automatically removed after up to 180 days. Delivery records may be kept to show that a service message was sent and to investigate delivery problems. We delete or anonymise records that are no longer needed.

Your rights

Subject to legal limits, you can ask for a copy of your information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of use, or transfer of information you provided. You can object when we rely on a legitimate interest and you can withdraw consent where consent is the reason for use. Contact calum@dialegein.com. We may ask for enough information to protect someone else from making a request about your record. We aim to answer within one month.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you believe we have not handled your information properly.

Automated checks

The site checker gives preliminary information about public page details. It is not a search ranking score and it does not make a decision with a legal or similarly serious effect. Decisions about what gets listed are made by a person, not by the checker. We do not use the checker to build an advertising profile about you.

How a record is built, and who has read it

Two different things produce a listing, and it is worth being precise about which is which.

A submitted product is reviewed by a person before it is listed. A record we assemble ourselves is built from a vendor's own public pages, and every fact on it names the page it came from. Those records are labelled with whether a person has read them: a profile that says "not yet reviewed by a person" has been compiled from sources rather than read by an editor, and the label is there so you can tell the difference.

What we do not do is claim review we have not done. Where something has not been verified, the field says so rather than carrying a plausible guess.

Security and changes

We use private access controls, input checks, safe file handling, protected service credentials, activity records, and provider security controls to protect information. No online service can promise perfect security. Tell us promptly if you think an account, submission, or message has been misused. We may update this policy when the service changes. The date at the top shows which version applies.

02 · Cookies

Cookies and similar tools

Dialegein aims to keep the public index simple. At present we do not use advertising cookies, optional tracking cookies, or analytics cookies merely because you visit the public site.

Our hosting, sign in, and security providers may use a strictly necessary cookie or similar tool to keep a session secure, remember a required setting, prevent abuse, or make a requested feature work. These tools are not used to sell information or create an advertising profile.

If we add analytics, personalisation, advertising, or another tool that is not strictly necessary, we will explain what it does and ask for consent where the law requires it. You can control cookies through your browser. Blocking a necessary tool may stop a private feature from working.

03 · Sponsorship

Sponsorship and paid placement

A paid placement is a distribution service. It can put a product in clearly labelled promotional space on defined surfaces, but it is not an endorsement, a ranking service, or a promise of traffic, sales, search visibility, artificial intelligence mentions, or customer results.

Paid products are marked sponsored or paid placement wherever the placement appears, and paid links receive the appropriate sponsored treatment. Payment does not guarantee acceptance, a fixed position, a fixed number of visits, or continued publication.

The full rules are on the independence and money policy. It covers sponsorship labels, referral links, introductions, data and API licensing, partner disagreements, privacy and the final editorial decision. Paid placement is not open yet.

We also accept voluntary sponsorship of the open source tooling we publish through GitHub. It is separate from placement and buys nothing on this site: no ranking, no verdict, and no product placement.

04 · Submission

Submission guidelines

Dialegein is for real software with a clear public purpose. Send the official product website and enough information for a visitor to understand what the product does, who it helps, and what happens after they click.

Please provide

  • The official website address and product name.
  • A short description that is accurate, specific, and written in your own words.
  • Relevant categories, intended audience, pricing, and important limits.
  • A logo that you own or are allowed to display.
  • A contact email that may be personal or belong to your business, provided that you are allowed to use it for the submission.
  • Any claim about security, customers, results, awards, or numbers supported by public evidence.

We do not accept

  • Copied descriptions, fake reviews, false identities, or invented numbers.
  • Malware, phishing, harmful downloads, deceptive redirects, or pages that ask visitors for secrets without a clear reason.
  • Products that are unlawful, unsafe, abandoned, broken, empty, temporary, duplicated, or impossible for a visitor to understand.
  • Content that infringes copyright, trade mark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
  • Requests intended to manipulate search results, create artificial links, overwhelm the service, or bypass review.

Review and permission

A receipt confirms that we received a submission. It is not approval. We may ask questions, correct formatting, decline, pause, or remove a listing. By submitting, you confirm that you have authority to provide the information and give Dialegein a limited permission to display the product name, logo, description, categories, and link for the purpose of operating the index. You keep ownership of your content.

05 · Removal

Corrections and removal

Anyone can report a problem with a listing. A product owner or authorised representative can ask to claim, correct, update, or remove a listing through the request route on the product page or by contacting us.

What to include

  • The product page or website address.
  • A clear description of the problem or the change requested.
  • Evidence that helps us check the request.
  • Your contact email and, for a claim, enough information to show that you represent the product.

What happens next

We aim to acknowledge a request within three working days and make a decision within fourteen working days. A complex request, a dispute about ownership, a legal complaint, or a security incident may take longer. We may temporarily pause a listing while we check it. We can act quickly when content appears unsafe, unlawful, deceptive, compromised, or likely to cause harm.

We keep a private record of moderation decisions where it is needed for security, repeat abuse, disputes, or legal duties. We do not publish the personal details of a person who reports a problem unless the law requires it. If you disagree with a decision, reply to the decision email or contact us with the reason and any new evidence.

06 · Refunds

Refund policy

Free submissions do not create a payment or a refund. Dialegein will show the full price and service terms before a paid listing is ordered. A paid placement is activated only after Stripe confirms the relevant payment through the signed webhook.

Zero-click guarantee

A tracked click is one handoff from a Dialegein placement link - the redirect at /go/ on this domain - counted once per visitor per product per day. Known crawlers and bots are excluded, and so is anything that is not a browser navigation: a real click carries the Sec-Fetch-Mode: navigate header, and a script or a scanner usually does not. That filtering is best-effort rather than proof, because the header can be absent on a real click and supplied by automation, so the figure is an approximation of human clicks rather than a count of them. The exclusions are applied before the figure is recorded.

What is recorded is a handoff, not a confirmed arrival. The log shows that a request reached the redirect and was sent on its way. It does not show that the browser completed the navigation, that a person rather than automation was behind it, that anyone stayed on the site, or that anything was bought.

For a monthly order, if a full calendar billing month produces zero tracked clicks, the following month is provided at no charge. It is applied automatically as a credit on the next invoice: the advertiser does not have to ask, and does not have to demonstrate anything.

For an annual order the same promise is delivered as time. Any calendar month within the term that produces zero tracked clicks extends the term by one month at no charge. Annual billing does not remove this guarantee.

For a prepaid click pack, which is billed on delivery rather than by period, the equivalent is simpler: clicks that are not delivered are not charged for.

This guarantee concerns our own measurement and nothing further. It is not a promise of customers, signups, revenue or search rankings, and a month with clicks is not a claim that those clicks converted. We can observe that a visitor left for the advertiser's site; we cannot observe what happened after that, and we do not imply otherwise.

Paid services

When paid listings are available, you may cancel a month to month service to stop future renewals through the management route shown in your order information. If the law gives you a right to cancel an online service within a set period, we will explain how to use it and what happens if you ask us to start during that period.

If we do not provide a paid service as described, contact us promptly. We will investigate and may offer a correction, replacement period, partial refund, or full refund depending on the problem and the service period affected. Nothing in this policy limits a legal right that cannot be limited.

How to ask

Send the order details, the email used for the order, and a description of the issue to calum@dialegein.com. Approved refunds are returned through the original payment route where possible. We will tell you if a different route is needed.

07 · Service terms

Terms of service

These terms apply when you use the Dialegein website, browse a product page, submit a product, request a change, use the checker, or order a paid listing. By using the service, you agree to use it lawfully and respectfully.

What Dialegein provides

Dialegein provides a curated software index, public product pages, review and listing requests, and a preliminary checker for public website details. A listing is not a certification, endorsement, security audit, investment recommendation, or guarantee of search visibility, artificial intelligence mentions, traffic, sales, or suitability.

Acceptable use

  • Use the index to research products and make your own checks before buying, downloading, or sharing information.
  • Do not scrape, overload, probe, disrupt, reverse engineer, or bypass access controls.
  • Do not submit false, unlawful, harmful, copied, or misleading information.
  • Do not use the checker to test a private system, a local network, or a website without permission.
  • Do not send malware, phishing content, deceptive redirects, or requests for secrets.

Your submission

You promise that the information and logo you provide are accurate enough for publication and that you have the rights and authority needed to provide them. You give us a limited permission to display them in the index. You keep ownership. We may edit for clarity, ask for proof, decline publication, pause a page, restore a page, or remove a page.

External products and links

A product page may link to an external website. That website has its own terms, privacy notice, security, prices, and service quality. Check those details before using it. Dialegein is not responsible for the external product or for a checker result that changes after it was produced. Paid links are labelled.

Paid orders

A paid service starts only when an order is accepted and the payment details are confirmed. The order will show the service, price, tax treatment where relevant, payment period, cancellation method, and refund rules. No optional charge will be added without your express choice.

Availability and responsibility

We work to keep Dialegein available and accurate, but pages, external websites, provider services, and network connections can change or fail. We may change, suspend, or end a feature for security, maintenance, legal, or operational reasons. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or a legal consumer right. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect loss, lost profit, lost business, or an external product or checker result.

Complaints and law

If something goes wrong, contact calum@dialegein.com first so we can investigate. These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. The courts of Scotland have non exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any rights you have under consumer law.
