Syncfusion PDF
The PDF library inside Essential Studio, sold as part of the Document SDK rather than on its own.
Operated by Syncfusion, Inc.
Where your files are processed
No server involved
An in-process .NET library running on the customer's own servers, with no server deployment fee. Worth keeping in the note: the vendor also publishes free browser PDF tools that do upload, and they are a separate product from this library. That is a property of the library itself: what an application built with it does with your file depends on that application, not on this.
Architectural: a licensing-and-NuGet-deployed .NET library that runs in the customer's own process on the customer's own servers, with no hosted component and no per-server deployment fee. The docs describe it as usable from WinForms, WPF, ASP.NET, Blazor, MAUI and Unity and emphasise that it works without Adobe or any third-party service, and the redaction tutorial states that all operations run locally. Two exceptions to name, because a reader will otherwise assume they are covered: the vendor hosts a set of free browser PDF tools (merge, compress, unlock, organise, XPS-to-PDF) on its own website, which are a separate product that uploads your file, and the PDF Viewer SDK's AI-driven document features are marketed as being able to reach enterprise AI systems, which is a different product from this library. The library itself also phones home in one routine way, licence validation against a Syncfusion licence key.
What it does
Syncfusion's PDF library is a managed C# library for creating, reading and editing PDFs with no Adobe dependency, usable across .NET Framework through .NET 10 in WinForms, WPF, ASP.NET, Blazor, MAUI and Unity, with a separate JavaScript edition. Its documented range is unusually wide for a single library: HTML, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and XPS to PDF conversion, forms including XFA, text and image extraction, Tesseract-based OCR, digital signatures, encryption, PDF/A and PDF/UA conformance, and a redaction API that removes the underlying content inside the redaction rectangle. It is not sold as a standalone product. The PDF library is one of several libraries in the Document SDK licence, which also covers Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown and data extraction, and it is part of the larger Essential Studio suite of over 1,600 components.
Best for: Teams already inside, or willing to buy into, the Syncfusion ecosystem who need PDF alongside Word, Excel and PowerPoint processing under one per-developer licence, and small companies or individuals who qualify for the free Community License. It is the cheapest way in this batch to get a commercial-grade .NET PDF library with genuine redaction, provided the developer minimum and the non-perpetual terms work for you.
Worth knowing: You cannot buy this PDF library on its own, and you cannot buy it for fewer than five developers. The published figure, US$1,199 per developer per year, is the price of the whole Document SDK - PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown and data extraction - so a team that only wants PDF is paying for four document libraries it will not use. The five-developer minimum turns that headline into roughly US$5,995 in year one, for a subscription that must stay active: the EULA requires customers to embed licence checks in shipped assemblies and to build in technical mechanisms that stop documents being created once the subscription lapses, and customers with Team, Project, Division or Global licences may not continue distributing applications that depend on the library after the term ends. A perpetual licence this is not. The Community License is a separate route from the paid subscription and it has eligibility conditions rather than being free for all use: below one million US dollars in annual gross revenue, at most five developers and ten employees, and no more than three million dollars of outside capital, with vendor-specific conditions for clients and government work. A team that qualifies should not be told the paid developer minimums and distribution restrictions apply to it.

Vendor statements, our own reading of their pages, and the things nobody has established yet, each answered separately. Where we have not confirmed something it says so rather than guessing, and a row nobody has established is greyed out.

What the redaction verdict rests on
From the vendor's own documentation, read 22 September 2026. Not tested by us.
“Redacting a PDF is the process of permanently removing sensitive or confidential information from a PDF document. … The JavaScript PDF Library supports permanent redaction of PDF documents, including text, images, and metadata, by defining redaction regions and applying an irreversible overlay on top of the original content.”
What that does not establish: Vendor documentation for a developer library, not a test we ran. Two limits the page states and the verdict does not: redaction requires an add-on package installed separately, and the mechanism is described as an "irreversible overlay". Overlay is the word covering tools use, and the sentence asserts irreversibility rather than showing it — the distinction this index exists to draw.

What the vendor says
Claims are labelled rather than repeated as fact. Where we have checked something ourselves, it says so and shows when. Checked means we read the vendor's own page and it says what we recorded — not that we tested the behaviour, unless the note says we did.

“Every product is licensed per developer, per year, starting with a 5-developer team license. Choose two or more products and automatically unlock lower bundled pricing.”
Checked by us — the source says this Read 22 September 2026
Confirmed verbatim: the two sentences appear unaltered as the page's pricing summary, and "Priced per developer" is repeated as a label further down. This is a pricing structure claim rather than a price, and it is the structure that matters for a buyer: a per-developer annual licence with a five-developer entry point, and bundling that reduces the per-product cost as more products are added. No figure appears in the claim and none was recorded, so this entry says nothing about what the product costs — only about how it is counted. Recorded as the vendor's description of its own pricing; no purchase was made and no control was run.

“The PDF library is a feature-rich .NET PDF class library developed with 100% managed C# code that can be used to create, read and write PDF.”
Checked by us — the source says this Read 22 September 2026
Confirmed verbatim: the sentence is the overview's opening line, and the rest of the paragraph is unusually specific for a capability claim — it names the supported application types (Windows Forms, WPF, ASP.NET, Blazor, UWP, Flutter, WinUI, MAUI and Unity), states that it works "without the dependency of Adobe Acrobat", and names the specifications followed (PDF 1.7 / ISO 32000-1 and PDF 2.0 / ISO 32000-2). "100% managed C# code" is a checkable claim about the implementation rather than a marketing adjective, and it matters to teams that need to avoid native dependencies. Recorded as the vendor's documentation; nothing was built or run.
