Edit
Browse all edit toolsediting PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Edit PDF page documents editing text with the same formatting, changing text size, font, colour and alignment, a built-in spelling check, adding, replacing, moving, rotating, flipping, cropping and opacity-changing images, adding watermarks, hyperlinks, page numbering and backgrounds, managing layers with visibility and import, and adding audio and video to PDFs; the scope is the documented text, image, page-decoration and layer editing, and two boundaries are kept: editing text inside a scanned page needs the separate OCR capability, and the unregistered trial only offers Create, View, Protect and Organize Pages, so editing is a paid or registered-trial capability, with no layout-reflow guarantee
Convert
Browse all convert toolsconverting PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Convert PDF page documents PDF to Word DOC, DOCX and RTF, Excel XLS and XLSX, PowerPoint PPT and PPTX, Text TXT and XML, HWP and HWPX, images JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP and GIF, PDF to editable, image-based or PDF/A, and PDF to HTML and EPUB, plus conversion to PDF from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, TXT, HTML, PUB, OFD, DWG, MPP and VSD files, with batch conversion and OCR-assisted scanning noted; the scope is the documented conversion directions, with no fidelity guarantee and no claim for formats not listed
Merge
Browse all merge toolsmerging and splitting PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Combine page documents merging multiple PDFs and combining images into one PDF, arranging and reordering the combined document, and the optional Organize step to reorder, delete or rotate pages, and the Split PDF how-to page documents splitting a PDF into individual pages; the page also notes that the combined document can then be compressed; the scope is the documented combine, reorder, delete, rotate and split operations, with no claim about preserving signatures, forms or annotations across a merge
Protect
Browse all protect toolsprotecting PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Password Protect page documents an open password to control viewing and a permission password to control editing and printing, three encryption levels of AES-128, AES-256 and 128-bit RC4, and permission settings that can allow low-quality printing, restrict editing while allowing signing or commenting, and block copying of text, images or other content; the same page and the Smart Redact page document marking content for redaction and applying it so that sensitive information is permanently removed and blacked out; the scope is the documented encryption, permission and redaction workflow, and the vendor's own eSign and certificate functions are left to the separate sign job, with no claim about how other readers enforce permissions beyond what the page states
Compress
Browse all compress toolscompressing PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Compress PDF page documents one-click compression that reduces resolution at high, medium or low settings, manual adjustment of image DPI resolution to reduce file size, and batch compression of multiple PDFs; the page claims compression without losing quality, which is recorded as vendor marketing rather than a lossless guarantee, and no size-reduction percentage is claimed
Sign
Browse all sign toolssigning PDF documents with PDFelement, where the Sign PDF page documents creating an electronic signature that is handwritten, typed or supplied as an image, adding it to a PDF, and auto-syncing signatures across the user's desktop and mobile devices, alongside certificate-based digital signatures that confirm author identity and document integrity and can appear as text or an image including a scanned handwritten signature on Windows and Mac, with batch digital signing using a digital certificate; the eSign page adds certificate-based legal signatures, sending documents to bulk signers and real-time signature tracking, marked as cloud-only; the scope separates the electronic signature from the certificate-based digital signature, keeps cloud sending as the platform-specific feature the page states, and makes no claim of a certificate authority, timestamping authority or independent legal certification
OCR
Browse all ocr toolsrunning optical character recognition with PDFelement, where the PDF OCR page says PDFelement turns scans and image PDFs into editable and searchable PDFs, preserves and reproduces document layout and formatting elements, states that it recognizes more than 20 languages, and documents choosing a page range and a language recognition option before applying OCR; the page's steps also mention converting scanned PDFs to editable text and deskewing, and the store comparison limits OCR results preview to the trial; the scope records the more-than-20-language statement as the vendor's claim, makes no accuracy figure claim, and does not claim handwriting-specific recognition
Where your files are processed
Mixed - depends on version and feature
The vendor's own documentation separates them. On the device: Windows, macOS. On their servers: Web. A single answer for the whole product would be wrong for one of them.
The online tools and cloud edition process and store files on Wondershare's servers, while the Windows, Mac and mobile apps are installed software. No vendor statement was found that all desktop processing - particularly the AI features - stays on the device.
What it does
PDFelement is Wondershare's commercial PDF editor, sold as installed apps for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android alongside browser-based online tools and a cloud service. The current release is PDFelement 13.
It edits text and images, converts to and from Office formats, runs OCR in more than 20 languages according to the vendor, handles forms, batch processing, e-signing, password protection, watermarks and a Smart Redact tool. The desktop apps are the main product; the free download behaves as a watermarked trial.
Best for
Individuals and small teams that want a full desktop PDF editor with OCR and AI features at a lower sticker price than Adobe Acrobat.
Worth knowing
The unregistered version is a watermarked trial rather than a free tier: the current store FAQ says it offers limited functionality including Create, View, Protect PDF and Organize Pages and adds a watermark when saving, while a registered 14-day trial opens nearly all features but is also watermarked, gives an AI-usage quota and allows Recognize Table and Create Notes 3 times. The store's plan comparison puts feature-specific trial limits on the same page, including eSign 1 time, AI 10 uses, Combine up to 3 files within 20 MB and Batch up to 3 files within 20 MB, against paid allowances such as eSign 3 times and AI 50 uses.
The earlier archive-derived note about a three-versus-five page conversion cap is superseded by this current table rather than repeated as a universal cap. A bare free-tier yes is misleading beside a watermarked trial, so what can actually be saved free is what belongs in the field.
The Windows FAQ says three conversion pages in its table and five in its prose, and the versioned manuals and store pages document different OCR, compression and batch restrictions, so the conflict is recorded and the current build needs verifying before any universal cap is asserted. Smart Redact is vendor-described detection, preview and applied permanent removal rather than an independently verified guarantee that every sensitive item is found, and multiple-region residency needs a direct service-specific source.
The price comparison with another product is removed in favour of dated comparable plan prices or nothing.

What the redaction verdict rests on
From the vendor's own documentation, read 16 October 2026. Not tested by us.
“Permanently remove and black out sensitive content. Keep your PDFs secure and private. ... Mark for redaction - manually select texts or areas to black out. ... Permanently hide it with one step.”
What that does not establish
Read from the live vendor page on 2026-10-16; the earlier recording used an Internet Archive snapshot because the live guide returned only navigation. The vendor describes both permanent removal and blacking out, and also uses the word hide once, so the safe reading is that applied redaction is documented as removal but the wording is not perfectly consistent.
Marking is separate from applying, as in the earlier guide. This remains a vendor claim rather than an independently tested result.
What the vendor says
Claims are labelled rather than repeated as fact. Where we have checked something ourselves, it says so and shows when. Checked means we read the vendor's own page and it says what we recorded - not that we tested the behaviour, unless the note says we did.
-
“Half the cost compared to Adobe Acrobat.”
Checked by us - the source says this Read 22 September 2026
Confirmed verbatim: the sentence appears unaltered as the body of a bullet labelled "Affordable", followed by a second bullet describing the product as "a complete PDF solution for converting, compressing, OCR, and batch tasks". "Half the cost compared to Adobe Acrobat" is a comparative price claim with no figure, no edition and no billing period attached, which makes it uncheckable from the page - and it is the fourth vendor in this index to position against Acrobat by price or capability, after ABBYY, PDF Studio, Power PDF and PDF Expert.
Recorded as the vendor's wording; no price was sought.
