Where your files are processed

Mixed - depends on version and feature

The vendor's own documentation separates them. On the device: Foxit PDF Editor installed on Windows and macOS. On their servers: Local AI on the user’s hardware, Smart Redact in the vendor cloud and other AI services. A single answer for the whole product would be wrong for one of them.

It depends on the feature. The installed editor works on files on the machine, and the vendor now documents Local AI running offline on the user’s hardware.

Smart Redact is separate and identified as Azure cloud processing with vendor-reported deletion rather than an independently verified retention result, and other AI services have their own paths. An aggregate requires-account answer cannot describe subscription, cloud and AI workflows together, so it is left unspecified rather than answered for the wrong workflow.

What it does

Foxit PDF Editor is a subscription or perpetual PDF application for Windows, macOS, web, iOS and Android. It edits text, images and pages, merges and splits, converts to and from Word, Excel and PowerPoint, runs OCR on scans, creates and fills forms, applies password protection and permissions, and redacts content.

Tiers matter: PDF Editor covers desktop and web, while PDF Editor+ adds the mobile apps and Smart Redact, which detects and removes hidden text and metadata automatically.

Best for

Organisations replacing Acrobat at scale that want genuine redaction, perpetual-licence options and centralised admin - including regulated teams that must strip personal data before sharing documents.

Worth knowing

Only US dollar prices were found. The perpetual licence excludes AI, Workspace, Smart Redact and cloud features, and the Smart Redact path sends documents to Foxit's Azure-hosted cloud for processing, so this is not uniformly an on-device tool.

Smart Redact’s FAQ specifies an initial 50-document allowance with further purchases, and Editor+ inclusion does not mean unlimited use; suggested redactions can be reviewed before application, so flawless automatic detection and independently proven removal are not implied. The editor no longer carries an HTTP API entry, because the vendor sells separate developer APIs.

Subscription and perpetual licence scope is recorded with the published 14-day trial, trial output stays unknown, multiple-region residency needs a service-specific source, and Compare is recognised in the taxonomy where supported.

What the redaction verdict rests on

From the vendor's own documentation, read 22 September 2026. Not tested by us.

“Foxit’s Smart Redact uses AI to automatically identify and remove sensitive data including names, IDs, emails, and more, without manual tagging.”

What that does not establish

This page documents Smart Redact, which is an AI add-on sold as requiring Foxit PDF Editor+ separately. The manual redaction feature is documented elsewhere and is NOT established by this page - the tier note on the guide covers which editions include it.

Vendor wording, not a test. The page also claims "99.9% accuracy", which is a marketing figure with no method attached and should not be read as a measurement.

What the vendor says

Claims are labelled rather than repeated as fact. Where we have checked something ourselves, it says so and shows when. Checked means we read the vendor's own page and it says what we recorded - not that we tested the behaviour, unless the note says we did.

  • “Foxit PDF Editor costs $129.99 per user per year, and Foxit PDF Editor+ costs $159.99 per user per year, with monthly billing available from $10.99.”

Checked by us - the source says this Read 22 September 2026

Confirmed verbatim: the sentence appears unaltered, and the four figures in it - $129.99, $159.99 and the $10.99 monthly entry - are repeated in a second paragraph that also explains what the extra $30 buys. That is the most useful thing on the page for a buyer and the claim omits it: Editor+ adds mobile apps for iOS and Android, Foxit eSign Essentials with 150 envelopes a year, and AI-powered Smart Redact.

Four further facts are stated but are not in the claim: a perpetual licence for Foxit PDF Editor 14 at a one-time $209.99 per user, volume discounts of up to 30% at 30 licences or more, 300 free AI credits a month on every plan, and a 14-day trial with no credit card. This is a pricing entry where the claim is accurate and the record is more useful than the claim.

No purchase was made and no control was run.

    How we checked

Re-verified verbatim on 2026-09-22: https://www.foxit.com/pdf-editor/pricing/ re-rendered in headless Chrome with scripts/render-page.mjs and the claim's wording found in the rendered text. Originally verified on 2026-09-21. sourceHash is the SHA-256 of the re-rendered text, held as rv-www-foxit-com-pdf-editor-pricing-1406bcb0.txt.

What this hash proves, and what it does not

  • “99% AI accuracy-no missed data, no manual risk.”

Checked by us - the source says this Read 21 September 2026

Confirmed verbatim: "99% AI accuracy-no missed data, no manual risk." is the subtitle of a section headed "Precision You Can Trust". The finding is that the same page carries a different number for the same AI in another section - "Achieve Unmatched Efficiency with 99.9% Accuracy Using AI" - and a third formulation, "Over 99% AI Accuracy", inside the page's localisation strings.

So the page states 99%, 99.9% and "over 99%" for one feature, and a reader has no way to tell whether these describe the same measurement, different measurements, or drift between copy revisions. "No missed data" is also an absolute that a 99% figure cannot support: one document in a hundred is the stated error rate.

Recorded as the vendor's wording, with all three figures as written.

    How we checked

The rendered page contains the sentence as a heading in one section and a different figure in another, so the claim was checked twice: against the rendered text of https://www.foxit.com/ai/smart-redact/ (13058 bytes) and against the raw HTML response (1786735 bytes saved and hashed) to establish where each figure sits. sourceHash is the SHA-256 of the raw response.

What this hash proves, and what it does not

Each claim is quoted from the vendor's own pages. This section describes what we have and have not checked - it is not a judgement about anyone.
