SnackPDF vs SimplePDF
Two browser tools whose editing says the file stays on your device.
Disclosure. Dialegein and SnackPDF share an operator, so read this one with that in mind. SnackPDF is listed on the same terms as every other tool here: no paid placement and no favourable ordering. What is different is how much of it we have tested, and that is a fact about our work rather than about the products - SnackPDF has been through our tests and SimplePDF has not, which does not make the untested one less private, only less checked by us.
The short answer
Both claim the file stays on the device for editing, and the claim is about editing rather than about everything each product does. We have watched SnackPDF do it; for SimplePDF that claim is vendor-reported and we have not verified it, which is a gap in our evidence rather than a finding against the tool. SimplePDF is different in kind once a form is submitted: the vendor distinguishes free local editing from the paid submission workflow, where the completed document is stored on their side or in storage you supply. Redaction separates them too - SnackPDF removes the content, a verdict that came from a test, while SimplePDF offers whiteout, which covers text without removing it.
The difference that decides it
The two suit different jobs rather than one being the better tool. SnackPDF is the everyday local option: open a PDF, fill it, sign it, keep the file on the machine. SimplePDF is built around collecting form responses from other people and returning a filled document, so its value is in the embedding and the workflow rather than in what it does to one local file. If you are choosing for yourself, the first fits; if you are choosing for a group of people who need to submit something, the second does.
